Calkins Media, Comcast Announce Partnership

In a first-of-its-kind agreement, local news, sports and entertainment programming will be available to cable subscribers in the Philadelphia suburbs from Calkins Media and Comcast.

LEVITTOWN, PA (February 20, 2016) - Calkins Media, parent company of the Bucks County Courier Times, Burlington County Times, and The Intelligencer, announce an agreement with Comcast to have its videos carried on the cable company's Xfinity On Demand service.

Comcast Xfinity and X1 customers in the Philadelphia market will be able to watch nearly a dozen daily and weekly programs on local high school sports, food, entertainment, and pet care; as well as local daily news reports from Bucks, Burlington and Montgomery counties. Shows and reports will be available to all Comcast subscribers through the On Demand portal. Comcast's X1 users will also be able to simply speak into their remote control to bring up these local Calkins Media programs.

"We are excited to give our audiences another way to access our local programming," said Michael G. Jameson, President and Publisher of the three newspapers. "We have been at the forefront of creating high-quality, local news, sports and entertainment video."

It is the first time Comcast has included content from a local media company on its On Demand service. Comcast said the agreement signifies the company's interest in delivering premium local content to its customers.

"Xfinity is committed to providing more choice and selection for our customers, and the addition of Calkins Media helps to expand our cross-platform local news offering on Xfinity on Demand," said Daniel Spinosa, General Manager Movies, Pay-Per-View and Commerce, Comcast Cable. "This partnership is representative of our commitment to delivering the best collection of premium local content to our customers whenever and wherever they want to watch it."

Calkins Media's weekly lineup showcasing local content in the Philadelphia market can also be found on the WATCH page of each of the newspaper's websites, as well in the TV Everywhere app, Roku and Fire TV channels.
